The Wayward Wind

  Wednesday 14th October, 2026

Why do some stories belong so strongly to a particular place? And what determines whether that place ultimately makes it onto screen?

Join writer/director Robin Summons and producer Selin Yaman, two of the team behind The Wayward Wind, a feature film currently being financed with plans to shoot in the Gippsland Lakes.

Robin will talk about why he chose East Gippsland for the story, how the landscape and character of the region shaped the screenplay, and why this particular story belongs here.

Selin will then broaden the discussion, drawing on thirty years of experience across film, television and advertising to explore how locations are chosen, and how budgets, schedules, logistics and financing can shape those decisions. She’ll also discuss a domestic and international case study of screen productions and the impact they have had on the places in which they filmed.

This is an opportunity to learn more about the creative, financial and practical considerations involved in filming on location, how productions might work within regional communities, and the impact of changing technologies on the future viability of location filming.

The Wayward Wind is currently in financing for a proposed 2027 production.
